Barn Hunt - Well, we moved 40 points closer to a Crazy 8s title but have a LONG way to go!!  Mookie happily found (and told me he found!!) 2 rats and successfully did the tunnel and climb!  Then back to Novice to get those last 2 legs for his X title and, what do you know, he happily again alerted on litter tubes!!   I see more practice sessions in his future in June!!

Scent Work/Nosework

  • The first trial this month was a UKC trial in Wausau at a ROUND BARN that is an event center!  What a fun place to search!  Day 1, Mookie passed all 6 runs (2 novice each vehicles and interior and 1 advanced run each of vehicles and interior) earning him the Advanced Interior and Advanced Vehicles titles.  Day 2 - 8 searches, 8 Qs!  Titles - Advanced Containers, Advanced Exterior and Advanced Nosework!  Super weekend!

  • Fond du Lac AKC weekend!  This weekend wasn't Mookie's best but it was a super learning experience!  He, as I know, does NOT do well on areas that are/were potty areas!!  He got 3/4 exterior just fine but the buried searches on grass next to the kennel club were a disaster!  1/4 after he did so well a week or so before when the searches were on concrete!!  Regardless he did get a title.  Novice Exterior Elite (SENE)
Fast Cat
OMG!  How fun!  This was his first event at a campground in Oshkosh held by the Irish Setter Club.  He's in this photo waiting in line and hopefully the photographer will have a photo or 2 that I can't resist.  The first run took him a few seconds to figure out what was going on and after that he cruised along at 26+ miles/hour!   His average 3 best speeds (26.799 mph) puts him close to the top in placing of all the Mudis as of this date pending AKC confirmation!  And he got the first title:  BCAT

Farm Dog
The weekend of May 12th - 14th was busy!  Each morning we were off to Fast CAT and on Sunday we participated in the FDL AKC Scent Work after that and Saturday we were off then to a Farm Dog Test!
Such fun!  Animals and everything to do with a farm and Mookie was just fine.  He passed both tests and got his AKC Farm Dog title!  Three titles in one weekend in 3 different venues!

K9 Frisbee Toss and Fetch
OMG - who knew!  A frisbee league and such fun!  Started off slow with cold weather but Monday evenings are now FRISBEE evenings!  A great group of people get together and each dog gets 1 minute (2 rounds) to see how many can be caught. After only a few weeks and home practice, Mookie was getting pretty good at catching!  Now we work on bringing it back to me and releasing it so I can throw it again!!

Dock Dog Jumping
Swimming is not Mookie's favorite thing but he's learning that when his toy is in the water, the way to get it is to jump in and swim!  Slow and steady and he'll get used to it!   Several visits to Three Hounds pool in May have helped some AND this summer he is starting to play with the hose and stand in his pool!  Progress!

Obedience and Rally
Love this!  Mookie is doing so well.  We go to Rally drop-in sessions and help with a class where he gets to practice AND we participate in a 3 hour obedience class with a great group of obedience trainers with some extra sessions on the weekends!  Are we ready for trials... Noooo...  I know the pitfalls of starting rally and obedience trials before a dog is ready to just "see" what happens!!  Maybe this winter!  In the meantime, it's all fun!!

Shed Hunting
OH MY!!  SO....MUCH....FUN!!!  It has become a reward for doing a good track or obedience! We've done a lot of searches at Winchester Park, the yard and other places.  I discovered an organization that has virtual titles if you can't get to a trial so we started to do and record those!  It's called NASDA (North American Sport Dog Association) and Shed Dog 1 and Shed Dog Level 11 are both available

And finally....

Something happened at the end of the month that slowed the Mookster down a bit.  Probably (a guess) running through the woods where he ripped his nail out from his dewclaw..  Not fun.  I noticed it on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, put antibiotic cream on it and a cone and off to the vet Tuesday morning to get it checked and get medication.  He is learning to be very adapt at wearing the cone and accepts that this is the way it is for a bit!!  Cooperative Care is paying off!
